Hamburger SV v Bayern Munich

Two polar opposites collide here. Bayern, as ever, have started the new campaign in impressive fashion and, having won each of their four matches so far with a degree of comfort, they currently sit top of the table. Hamburg, on the other hand, having lost three out of four, find themselves languishing near the foot of the table in 16th place.

Just as they so often do, Bayern have exploded into action this season. They’ve scored 14 goals and have conceded just one in their four matches and it really is hard to pick holes in anything they’ve done as of yet. The Bavarian outfit have swept aside all challengers and if they weren’t to do the same to a weak looking Hamburg side it would be a real surprise.

From a betting point of view, ‘Bayern to Score Over 2.5 Goals’ is the way to go. The visitors have pretty much been scoring at will in the early part of the season and, against a Hamburg side who’re really struggling defensively, it’s hard to find any real reason why this trend won’t continue here.

At even-money this bet really does catch the eye, especially given that the hosts are yet to keep a clean sheet this season and have conceded a total of nine goals, conceding three or more in two of those. What’s more is they simply haven’t faced a side who possess anywhere near the attacking prowess of today’s visitors and their poor defensive record looks as though it will only get worse in this fixture. On top of this, Bayern have scored three or more goals in four of their five competitive matches this season, notching three in both of their last two league matches.

All things considered, it’s almost impossible to picture a scenario where Bayern fail to walk away without the three points having failed to scored multiple goals. The visitors faced their toughest task of the season when playing against the in-form Hertha Berlin on Wednesday night and they simply brushed them aside (3-0). With this in mind, Hamburg really shouldn’t present much of a challenge and the powerhouse that is Bayern Munich are very much fancied to continue their domestic dominance.

Werder Bremen v Wolfsburg

After yet another defeat on Wednesday night, this time at the hands of Mainz, there’s not much left to say about Werder Bremen. Bremen came out of the traps fast in the first half and took a deserved lead after just 12 minutes. The half-time lead could easily have been more but for some poor end product, but nonetheless the hosts would’ve been happy with the lead at the interval and, more importantly, the clean sheet. However, as the game wore on Mainz grew into things and, as they seemingly always do, Bremen crumbled at the back. Conceding two goals late on, they failed to claim anything for the fourth consecutive match.

It’s pretty simple, the hosts, for all their attacking efforts, are just really poor at the back and, against a side who’re certainly not short of attacking firepower, this is fancied to be another bad experience for Bremen fans.

The bet to be on in this fixture is ‘Wolfsburg to Score Over 1.5 Goals’. The visitors may have been on the end of a heavy beating during the week; however, the final score (1:5) against Dortmund didn’t exactly tell the full story. Wolfsburg created numerous chances in that match and, with a combination of both better finishing and better luck, they probably would’ve scored more. The fact that they conceded five is a slight worry, but it’s fair to say that Dortmund have been pretty impressive going forward so far this season and Bremen certainly aren’t likely to face attacking quality of the same nature in this fixture.

Prior to Wednesday’s defeat, Wolfsburg were unbeaten and had looked a fairly solid outfit in their opening three matches. The fact that they’d conceded zero goals in this time suggests so too. From a scoring point of view, with only three scored in four matches, the visitors haven’t exactly flown out of the gates this season, but they’ve created no fewer than 49 chances – the league’s second highest total. Against a side who’ve been as poor at the back as Bremen, this fixture presents an excellent opportunity for Wolfsburg to start turning some of these chances into goals.

Much like the game above, it’s hard to see a positive outcome for the hosts in this fixture and, at the very least, Wolfsburg should have enough about them to find the net on a couple of occasions.
