Brighton’s football continues to be easy on the eye, however, the Seagulls still don’t win enough games, especially at home where they have dropped points in seven of their last eight assignments. Burnley haven’t lost at the Amex Stadium since Albion’s promotion in 2017 and having drawn three of their last four matches, they could avoid defeat there again.

Brighton are struggling to sharpen their cutting edge in the final third and the Seagulls have scored one or fewer goals in 11 of their last 14 Premier League fixtures. Burnley meanwhile, have conceded just twice in four games despite facing Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool and their strength in defence makes them an interesting prospect with a +1.0 goal advantage.

Preliminary review and match prediction for Brighton vs Burnley

Brighton were luckless and eventually left Old Trafford point-less on Tuesday evening in a 2-0 reverse against Manchester United, though their tale of missed chances and opportunities was a familiar one.

While Albion have been widely praised for their pleasing passing football and tactical nous under Graham Potter, wins have been difficult to achieve, mainly due to their lack of oomph in forward areas.

Their issues are especially prevalent at the Amex Stadium where Brighton have claimed fewer points than they have on the road. In fact, Albion have won just three of their 11 home fixtures in the Premier League and just one of those victories has arrived since September.

Burnley will kick off Saturday’s game rock bottom of the division, though the Clarets showed in recent draws with Arsenal and Man Utd, and a narrow loss to Liverpool that they are ready to fight tooth and nail to secure their top-flight status.

Indeed, despite winning just once all-season long, Burnley are rarely willing pushovers and few teams enjoy facing their heavy-shouldered, direct approach.

In many ways, Burnley’s style of play under Sean Dyche is the antithesis of what Potter is trying to achieve with the Seagulls, though the Brighton boss often struggles to get the better of his counterpart.

In fact, Burnley are unbeaten in away meetings with Brighton since Albion’s promotion in 2017 and with key defender and skipper Lewis Dunk absent from the host’s ranks through suspension this weekend, the Clarets will feel they can bully their way to share of the spoils on the south coast again.

Burnley have avoided defeat in 12 of their last 16 tussles and that record suggests they are a generous price in the double chance market on Saturday.

Brighton and Burnley rank among the five lowest-scoring teams in the Premier League this season and as such, we shouldn’t expect fireworks when they lock horns on Saturday. Seven of Albion’s last eight home matches produced under 2.5 goals and the same outcome should be a safe option to take at 1.67 this weekend.

Matej Vydra and Johann Gudmundsson are both likely to be absent for Burnley, while manager Sean Dyche will also be sweating on the availability of new signing Wout Weghorst.
