Bookmaker Ratings prediction two: Aston Villa +1.0 Goal Handicap – 1.53
Aston Villa Double Chance
For all their pretty passing patterns, Brighton just don’t win enough football matches and the Seagulls have recorded just three victories in their last 20 Premier League assignments. At the Amex Stadium, they’ve won just one of their last nine tests and though Aston Villa have hit a sticky patch of their own, they are worth backing to avoid defeat for the fifth time in six encounters with Albion.
Aston Villa +1.0 Goal Handicap
Despite their status as a top half team, Brighton rank among the Premier League’s least prolific outfits and the Seagulls are averaging less than a goal per 90 minutes on home soil this term. Their lack of oomph in the final third means they are often worth opposing in the handicap markets however, and a bet on their opponents at +1.0 goal would have returned a winner in six of Albion’s last seven fixtures at the Amex Stadium.

Preliminary review and match prediction for Brighton vs Aston Villa
Having acquitted themselves well at Old Trafford despite their eventual defeat in midweek, Brighton would have expected a better result against Burnley on Saturday, though Albion collapsed instead and fell to a disastrous 3-0 defeat.
The loss, which was the Seagulls’ joint-heaviest of the campaign so far, was largely deserved after the hosts lodged a measly 0.45 xG against their robust visitors from Lancashire.
Graham Potter’s side have now won just three of their last 20 Premier League assignments since September, which is a remarkably meagre haul for a team so often lavished with praise.
At the Amex Stadium, Brighton’s record shows just one success in their last nine tussles and Aston Villa will be determined to take advantage of their host’s allergy to winning football matches on Saturday.
Steven Gerrard’s honeymoon period at Villa Park is well and truly over and the Villains’ embarrassing 1-0 reverse at home to Watford last weekend was the latest setback in a lengthening string of poor results.
Villa have won just one of their last eight games in all competitions under Gerrard, which is just about as bad as it gets for an expensively assembled squad with a decent smattering of stardust.
Nevertheless, the Midlanders have a chance to stop the rot on the south coast on Saturday against their toothless hosts. Villa’s head-to-head record, which shows just one loss in five meetings with Brighton, is strong, and Gerrard masterminded a 2-0 win over Albion in his first game in charge back in November.
Brighton’s dismal 3-0 loss to then bottom club Burnley in their last call to arms at the Amex would have stung and the home support will be on their back if Albion are slow starters on Saturday.
Aston Villa can take advantage of the tense atmosphere at Brighton and with their excellent record against the Seagulls a factor, the visitors could be worth taking in the double chance market.
Safe Bets
Both Brighton and Aston Villa have struggled in the final third in recent weeks and a stake on under 2.5 goals 1.8 looks a solid bet in the circumstances. Five of Albion’s last six matches produced two or fewer goals, while three of the Villains’ last four fixtures featured one or fewer strikes.
Get Quick Rich
Bettors on the hunt for something with a little more weight should consider backing Aston Villa to win 1-0 in the correct score markets this weekend. Albion have conceded exactly one goal in three of their last five home fixtures, while Villa’s last victory on the road came via a 1-0 triumph at Everton last month.
Brighton vs Aston Villa first goalscorer
Philippe Coutinho wasn’t quite at his mesmeric best for Villa against Watford last week, though the new signing has already shown during his short stint with the Villains that he can pop up with crucial goals. The Brazilian’s last effort gave his team the lead against Leeds on February 9th and the 29-year-old has the technical gifts to break the deadlock again this weekend.
Brighton vs Aston Villa Team News
Jeremy Sarmiento and Enock Mwepu look like missing out again for Brighton, though captain and key centre-half Lewis Dunk is available again following his suspension. Adam Webster picked a slight strain against Burnley, though he should be fit enough to feature.
Marvelous Nakamba and Bertrand Traore are still sidelined for Aston Villa, though defender Ezri Konsa is back in the squad following a one-match ban. Steven Gerrard could shuffle his pack a little following his team’s poor showing against Burnley.
Starting Lineups
Brighton: Sanchez – Veltman, Dunk, Webster, Cucurella – Bissouma, Gross, Moder, Mac Allister – Trossard, Maupay
Aston Villa: Martinez – Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne – McGinn, Luiz, Ramsey – Coutinho, Bailey, Watkins
Highlighted Player
Yves Bissouma
With an average of 3.4 tackles and 2.0 interceptions made per Premier League appearance, Yves Bissouma tops the charts for defensive actions for Brighton this season and the holding midfielder’s performances haven’t gone unnoticed elsewhere. Indeed, Aston Villa have been credited with a major interest in signing the Malian international and Bissouma will be keen to showcase his skills to a potential suitor on Saturday.
