Preliminary review and match prediction for Brentford vs Newcastle United

Brentford come into this match on the poorest form in the league based on the six-game form table, having claimed just a draw with Crystal Palace during that span.

In Brentford’s defence though, every team in that six-game span apart from Palace currently sits in the top seven so it hasn’t exactly been an easy schedule.

The Bees may feel confident coming back home to play against a team below them in the league, however, this Newcastle side is a very different proposition to the one prior to the transfer window.

The Geordies have been on brilliant form since the Christmas period with only Liverpool and Man United on longer unbeaten streaks.

The last six games have produced three wins and three draws. Newcastle have scored in every match, but only one match – a 3-1 win over Everton – has seen the Toon Army score multiple times.

It is in defence where Newcastle has been most impressive, conceding just four goals during this six-game stretch.

Christian Eriksen will feature in Brentford’s matchday squad for the first time. Former Newcastle man, Ivan Toney, has missed the last three matches but will be desperate to face his former side.

Allan Saint-Maximin has been ruled out for this one. Ryan Fraser came off with a hamstring injury against West Ham but has since trained. If, however, Fraser cannot play, Joelinton might be moved from midfield to attack with Bruno Guimaraes making his full debut.
