Borussia Dortmund vs Manchester City: Prediction and Betting Tips

19:00, Apr 14 2021
Borussia Dortmund vs Manchester City prediction for Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final showdown at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund. After scoring an all-important away goal, Borussia Dortmund will take their chances as they host Manchester City. Follow along for our free prediction and betting tips.

Borussia Dortmund Looking for a famous win

The BVB will feel they are in this tie with a chance of progressing to the semi-finals and cause a major upset by eliminating this season’s one of the top contenders Manchester City after losing by a respectable 2-1 score in the first leg. The German side had some chances to score more as well with seven attempts on goal of which three were on target.

Dortmund will be encouraged by Manchester City’s latest result. The Citizens’ loss at the weekend in the Premier League should give the BVB some hope that it is possible to beat Pep Guardiola’s side if they play very disciplined defensively something they haven’t done in their last four matches as the German side conceded four goals in each of them.

On the scoring side, Dortmund have been doing very well after they scored in 39 straight matches. In their last five matches, they have scored nine goals, three of which came in their last Bundesliga win against Stuttgart.

Manchester City need to increase their focus

Pep Guardiola will hope Saturday’s loss against Leeds United was just a slip up as his team prepares for the return leg of the Champions League quarter-final in Dortmund needing only a draw. Guardiola though is not the kind of coach who sits back and defends a draw. City will definitely take the initiative and possess the ball as they do in all their matches.

Pep might be concerned with his defensive record in the recent matches. City have just four clean sheets in ten matches and have conceded three goals in two matches. The Citizens have a great away record coming into this game having won 15 of the last 18 away matches. In the Champions League, City have eight wins in nine games and conceded two goals in the process.

Key Stats

  • Dortmund have scored in all four of their home CL games
  • Manchester City have scored in their three of four CL away games
  • Six of nine Dortmund CL matches have seen BTTS
  • Manchester City have scored in eight of nine CL matches this season

Borussia Dortmund vs Manchester City Prediction

Dortmund have no choice but to attack and create chances to score in this match if they want to win this match. With Prolific scorers Erling Haaland and Marco Reus who scored their only goal in the first leg on form, we think BVB are capable of scoring in this match.

With the scoring record that Manchester City have, they usually don’t disappoint their fans when it comes to putting the ball at the back of their opponent’s net. Guardiola will bank on Kevin De Bruyne who has scored three goals in five games.

We predict both teams to score in this match.
