After two matches, Group E is looking as though it could be one of the tightest in this competition with all four teams taking something from at least one of their games so far.

As for Leverkusen and Tottenham, two teams who’re separated by just a single point, both will feel that getting a result in this match will have significant bearing on whether or not they advance from Group E in their desired manner.

In the betting, Leverkusen, as the hosts, have been priced up as 6/5 favourites, although this might be overdoing it slightly. The German outfit are of course a decent side, but they’ve been far from infallible this season and they face a tough test against a Tottenham side who’ve made a strong start to the new season.

Siding with the visitors looks worthwhile in this fixture, but backing them to win, although not the worst bet at odds of 5/2, isn’t the way to go. ‘Tottenham Draw No Bet’, at 6/4 makes plenty of appeal and is the first bet worth being on ahead of this clash in Leverkusen.

The visitors have been in excellent form domestically this season and remain the only unbeaten team in the Premier League – something that Leverkusen can’t match domestically having already been beaten on three occasions. Additionally, although they lost on match-day one in this competition, perhaps overawed by the occasion at Wembley, Spurs impressed when getting the job done away at CSKA last time out and are fancied to get another positive result at the BayArena on Tuesday night.

With both of these teams looking good in an attacking sense – 29 goals scored between them so far this season – the key to winning this match is likely to be keeping things tight at the back. When it comes to defending, Tottenham have undoubtedly impressed more in this respect and their solid back-line should hold them in good stead here.

In addition to backing Spurs on the ‘Draw No Bet’ market, ‘Tottenham to Score Over 1.5 Goals’ is another worthy selection at odds of 7/4.

Although Tottenham probably haven’t scored more than a single goal as many times as they should have this season, games against CSKA and West Brom at the weekend spring to mind, they have created an awful lot of chances. In fact, they’ve created the third highest number of goal-scoring chances (106) in the Premier League overall and the second highest amount when playing away from home (55). Spurs have a number of creative players in their ranks and look capable of delivering goals from several different avenues. Against a side who’ve often let themselves down defensively and who’re coming off the back of a disappointing 2-1 defeat at the weekend, the visitors can make this a fixture where they take at least two of the numerous chances that they are likely to carve out.

Leverkusen, for all their attacking qualities, really don’t look the surest side defensively and they could face plenty of problems against a strong Spurs forward-line. The hosts have kept just two clean sheets in their nine competitive matches this season and have been let down by their defence in both of their Champions League matches so far, conceding twice first time out against CSKA at home, before conceding late on to surrender three points at Monaco on match-day two.

The main catalyst for Spurs goals in this match could be the fact that Bayer aren’t likely to sit deep. As both the hosts and as a side who generally like to play on the front foot, Leverkusen are expected to come out and play. Such tactics should suit this Tottenham side down to the ground and therefore an open, attacking game could be on the cards.
