Both of these sides have made relatively good starts to the Championship campaign. Home side Barnsley managed to secure an early season win in impressive fashion against Derby County, putting the Tykes in mid-table whilst QPR have taken maximum points without conceding a goal which puts them top of the league.

Not many expected Paul Heckingbottom’s side to take any points at home against a Derby side once again going for promotion, however, they showed just how unpredictable this league can be with a 2-0 win. That victory means that the players are no longer searching for that all-important first win of the season and consequently proves that they have what it takes to compete at this level after their playoff promotion from League One last year.

The Tykes have recruited well this summer by signing Tom Bradshaw from Walsall despite interest from more established Championship clubs. The Welshman has done extraordinarily well in recent season and is a good goalscorer – a rarity these days.

Additionally they have signed George Moncur from Colchester United. The 22-year-old is a tidy midfield player who was highly rated in his West Ham United youth days and should help add a bit of composure to the Barnsley midfield.

When QPR were relegated from the Premier League after the 2014/15 season, they were expected to bounce straight back up thanks to their huge spending power. However, as we so often see, the relegated side really struggled to adapt to life in the second tier and finished in a disappointing 12th place.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, appointed last December after doing well at Burton Albion, has steadied the ship at QPR and will be looking to go for promotion under the radar this season rather than try grabbing the headlines – something the club has been doing far too much in recent years.

The Hoops have not splashed the cash and instead are building a solid Championship team which is now reaping the rewards.

Despite being top of the table, QPR are considered the underdogs by many bookies for this match. Probably thanks to Barnsley’s impressive win at Derby County. However, QPR have even greater confidence than the Tykes at the moment and I would tip them to win here. How often do you get to make a decent profit when backing the table toppers in any league? I would not miss the opportunity here at 9/5.
