Atletico Madrid vs FC Porto: Prediction and Betting Tips

20:00, Sep 15 2021
Atletico Madrid vs FC Porto prediction for Wednesday’s Champions League Group B matchday one clash at Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid. Spanish La Liga champions Atletico Madrid host Porto who finished second in the Portuguese Primeira Liga last season in the first match of 2021/22 UCL group stage. You can read our preview free prediction and betting tips on this page.

Atletico Madrid is eager to have a good run in the UCL

After breaking the dominance of Real and Barca in Spain last season, Atletico Madrid will look to do well in the UCL. In fact, the Rojiblancos advanced from all but one of the last seven group stage editions. During the last two editions, Atletico failed to win their opening matches. Still, they qualified to the knockout stages.

Despite not looking very convincing in their first four La Liga games, with ten points they share the top spot. However, Diego Simeone will be eager for continental success this term. But having failed to advance past the round of 16 in three of their last four attempts is worrying. On the positive side though, the Spanish champions lost just one of their last 14 home games in the UCL.

Atletico Key Points

  • BTTS happened in Atletico’s three of their last four home games
  • Atletico scored in all of their last four home games
  • Los Rojiblancos are undefeated in nine home matches

FC Porto traveling to Madrid with high hopes

This is Porto’s 25th appearance in the Champions League group stage. Remarkably they are ranked only after Barcelona and Real Madrid who have 26. Notably, Porto won the UCL back in 2004. Moreover, they advanced from the group stages in their last four participations. Besides, last season they were one of just two clubs to have five clean sheets in the group stage.

Undefeated in five matches since the start of the season, the Dragons travel to Madrid with big hopes. As a result, coach Sergio Conceicao’s team will remember the 3-0 win at the Wanda Metropolitano in 2019. Certainly, a similar score would be welcomed but some defensive issues must be improved. The Portuguese conceded in three of their four matches and Conceicao must solve that.

Porto Key Points

  • Porto scored in all of their last ten matches
  • BTTS happened in 80% of Porto’s last five away games
  • The Dragons are undefeated in ten away games

Atletico Madrid vs Porto Prediction

Despite all statistics showing a high probability of BTTS happening in this match, that’s not the case with the bookies. At Vbet, the odds are 1.79 for both teams not scoring. Also in the total goals market, the bookies are favoring a low scoring game with odds of 1.78 for under 2.5 goals.

While both teams’ scores suggest otherwise, we can justify the bookie’s prediction in the importance of the match. Hence most probably the two teams will play cautiously which will restrict goal chances and the number of goals scored.

To sum up, we will back the under 2.5 total goals in this match. But for our second prediction, the combos section at Vbet has some attractive bets.
