Arsenal v Liverpool Betting Tip
This clash between these titans of English football is arguably the biggest fixture this weekend as two teams who are aiming for Champions League spots go head-to-head.
It has once again been a very frustrating transfer window for Arsenal fans. First they had the humiliation of being turned down by Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy and now their seemingly lifelong pursuit of Alexander Lacazette from Lyon appears to have hit a dead end. Their quest to find a top striker still rolls on. Whilst they have once again failed to sign a world class centre back, they have finally signed a midfield enforcer in Granit Xhaka. The Swiss international is exactly the type of player that Arsenal have been crying out for in recent times – somebody who gets stuck in but then is able to pick a good pass. There is considerable pressure on his shoulders to be the new Patrick Vieira, especially after arriving for a fee of nearly £40m.
Jurgen Klopp has had an overhaul of his Liverpool squad in this summer. Despite an impressive Euro 2016 campaign with Wales, Joe Allen has been offloaded to Stoke City whilst Jordon Ibe has moved to Bournemouth for around £15m – rather a lot to pay for what at this stage is only mere potential.
The German has signed a goalkeeper in Loris Karius to replace the flapping Simon Mignolet whilst the defence has been improved all round with Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan arriving from the Bundesliga to tighten things up.
The Reds have also signed a duo of attacking talent in Mane, a proven Premier League player, along with Georginio Wijnaldum, who was arguably Newcastle’s best player in last season’s relegation campaign. Whether the combined fee of around £70m for the two of them is worth it remains to be seen.
There is bad news for Arsenal in this game as all of their first choice centre halves are injured or not match fit whilst main striker Olivier Giroud is also not yet match fit.
Liverpool may be without Daniel Sturridge and James Milner for this match but I would still back them for a win here given Arsenal’s injury woes. An away win is priced at 11/5 which is irresistible given the circumstances.
