Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to make the most of her first-ever final

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova a semi-finalist in Madrid last month and having eliminated big names like Sabalenka, Azarenka, and Rybakina, will have a shot to win her first Grand Slam title at the age of 29. Anastasia had last played in the French Open final as a 15-year-old in 2006 in the Junior’s final.

It wasn’t the best of the semi-final matches as both players were very nervous at some stages of the game. In the first set, Anastasia was serving for the set at 5-4, but she lost her serve. She broke back in the 12th game however and won the set. 

Both players struggled to hold their services in the second set as there were five breaks of serve in nine total games. Pavlyuchenkova had could break her opponent three times and most importantly in the eighth game and went on to win the match.

Unseeded Barbora Krejcikova looking to upset the odds 

Barbora Krejcikova became the second player from the Czech republic after Martina Navratilova, to reach the French Open final. Krejcikova would like to follow in the footsteps of the greatest women tennis players and be the fifth unseeded player in history to win a Grand Slam.

It was a very tense game in the semi-final against Sakkari marred with unforced errors from both players. After winning the first set, the Czech fell back and started playing more defensively with high lofted balls, and committing 18 unforced errors allowed Sakkari to level the match.

It was much closer in the third set with both players committing even more errors, 50 in total by both of them. Krejcikova needed five match points to wrap up the match as Sakkari put up a fierce fight but the Czech was able to close the match with her coolness on the court.

Pavlyuchenkova is the more experienced player between the two and she had a tougher draw to reach the final. The Russian has very powerful groundstrokes and together with calm dictation of her rallies, she could be on her way for the first Grand Slam title of her career.

Krejcikova is a very good player and had a great campaign in Paris so far. She can be a real threat to Pavlyuchenkova but needs to be calm and commit much fewer unforced errors than she did in her semi-final match against Sakkari.

Pavlyuchenkova is the slight favorite to win with the bookies. It will be difficult to predict the winner although the Russian has much more experience and needs to be seen whether she can keep her nerves and composure to win.
