Aljamain Sterling vs T. J. Dillashaw (UFC 280): Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips 22/10/22 | News & Preview
Bookmaker Ratings: Prediction #1 –
Fight Result – Aljamain Sterling to win
I think the current odds on Sterling winning are overrated, so we’re definitely taking him out. Aljamain is in the best shape of his career. And that includes the mental aspect, as he finally defeated Petr Yan not by disqualification, but in a fair 25-minute fight. Dillashaw could compete with the champion and even take the fight by a close decision, but in the current situation I have no faith in T.J. Not only is he an older athlete, but his opponent is stylistically uncomfortable for him. I don’t think Sterling would have much trouble moving the former champion and getting behind him and controlling his position. We’re likely to see a unanimous decision in favor of Aljamain.
Preliminary review and match prediction for Aljamain Sterling vs T. J. Dillashaw
Aljamain Sterling: Funk Master
The American fighter trains at the Matt Serra and Ray Longo gym. There he was able to adapt his wrestling to MMA and also added various techniques from Brazilian jiu-jitsu to his arsenal. Sterling has one of the best backhands in the UFC, as well as good chokes and pains. One of his opponents Aljamain defeated with a rare “Suloev stretch” hold. He also likes to go for the choke from behind. The reigning champion has eight wins by submission and only two knockouts to his credit. The 33-year-old Funk Master has no striking power but he does not chase the finish and just throws combinations on different levels, taking over episodes and rounds.
Sterling has had some great moments and some tough losses in the UFC, but none of that matters, because he is now the champion of the organization’s most competitive division. Aljamain leads Petr Yan 2-0, though they are actually 1-1. The American has also beaten Corey Sandhagen, Pedro Munhoz, Jimmie Rivera, Renan Barao, Cody Stamann. Pretty good scalps, but Funk Master needs to make at least a few belt defenses for greatness. It’s possible that after beating Dillashaw, Sterling will switch weight classes to avoid fighting his friend Merab Dvalishvili, who is currently ranked number three.
These fight camps wouldn’t be the same without my guys!

T. J. Dillashaw: Lieutenant Dan
If anyone remembers the peak version of Dillashaw, they’re probably rooting for this guy in the upcoming fight. In his best form, T.J. showed the beauty of striking technique, defense, feints, footwork, and of course, wrestling. The challenger won the UFC flyweight title twice and also made an unsuccessful attempt to take the belt in the featherweight division. He once knocked out Renan Barao and Cody Garbrandt, outlasted John Lineker and Rafael Assuncao with decisions. But now Dillashaw resembles only a pale shadow of himself from 2014-2018. Nevertheless, after his comeback, the 36-year-old veteran defeated Corey Sandhagen on points. The decision caused quite a bit of controversy, but it was the decision that made T.J. the new challenger. But this time he is going to fight an opponent who is more skilled in wrestling, also moves well around the cage and hardly misses any heavy punches. It’s hard to speculate on what Dillashaw could pick up in a five-round fight with Sterling. Sure, over two full camps T.J. will gradually shed the rust and surely add to it, but will it be enough?
