Manchester United new signing Wout Weghorst has explained why he chose the jersey no.27 at Old Trafford.

Manchester United completed the signing of Wout Weghorst from Besiktas on a short loan spell and the forward has explained why he chose the no.27 jersey.

Man United signed Weghorst from Besiktas to complete the second half of the season at Old Trafford in a bid to ease the pressure on Anthony Martial.

United will obviously play loads of games in the coming weeks and Erik ten Hag thought it was a brilliant idea to sign a forward to replace Cristiano Ronaldo and put up a challenge on Martial.

Weghorst said he picked the no.27 jersey because he felt adding both numbers will equal 9, hence getting the feeling that comes with a striker’s number.

Speaking to MU, the Dutchman said: “Of course, I looked into the ones that are free or available. Two and seven will make nine, of course – a striker’s number. I had a feeling with it.

“Of course, when I came here, I heard about it was Alex [Telles]’s number, he got loaned out now. I first had to ask him if that was okay, so I said that was, for me, important and then, in the end, there was no problem so thanks to him also.”
