Even when fit, he is at the bottom of the Emirates’ pecking order, and he has fallen even further behind since the arrival of Leandro Trossard in January.

With his contract expiring in the summer, Arsenal star Reiss Nelson is attracting interest from a number of clubs both at home and abroad.

Nelson has made just seven appearances for the Gunners this season, only three of which have been starts, due to thigh injuries.

Despite his limited playing time, the attacking midfielder has proven his worth, scoring a brace and assisting in a 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest in October.

Even when fit, he is at the bottom of the Emirates’ pecking order, and he has fallen even further behind since the arrival of Leandro Trossard in January.

Given all of this, it has been reported that Arsenal are unlikely to extend Nelson’s contract, which expires at the end of the season, despite the 23-year-desire old’s to remain at his boyhood club.

‘At the moment, I believe Arsenal is the club for me. ‘I’ve been here a long time and I’m very comfortable,’ Nelson said in December.

‘Of course, I want to play games and I want to play week in and week out, but I feel like right now I’m at a point where I’m only going to get better.

‘I am an Arsenal fan and, of course, I want to renew my contract with the club. I’m just going to be ready for whatever comes my way and give it my all for the team.’

If he does leave, Fabrizio Romano claims that two Premier League clubs and at least three foreign clubs are interested in signing Nelson on a free transfer.

West Ham, according to other reports, is one of those interested parties, though that will undoubtedly depend on whether they stay in the top flight, with the Irons currently 16th and only two points above the relegation zone.

Nelson did not play in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Brentford on Saturday, but Mikel Arteta recently confirmed that he is close to returning from injury, saying: ‘The ones that they were long time like Emile [Smith Rowe], Reiss and Gabi [Jesus] are closer.

‘They started doing some outside work, but they are not yet ready to contribute.’

The Gunners return to action on Wednesday, hosting Manchester City in a crucial game in the title race.
