Raphael Varane reveals what Man United did after Manchester City broke the deadlock
Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has revealed that they maintained their focus after Manchester City Jack Grealish broke the deadlock at Old Trafford
Man United were obviously the better side in the first half but somehow failed to convert from any of the chances they created and that backfired early in the second half.
Pep Guardiola brought on Jack Grealish in the second half and the England international would waste no time to convert City’s only first clear cut chance of the game.
It was a huge disappointment for Manchester United to go behind after City scored from their first clear-cut chance of the game but Varane claimed his side remained calm because they felt the Old Trafford fans were still behind them.
Speaking after the game, Varane said via The Mirror: “After the first goal [vs City], we didn’t let our heads drop, even though we conceded a goal at home.
“But we also knew that we had the energy of the fans. We continued to follow our plan. Then we scored and that changed the whole game.
“Old Trafford is a stadium with a magnificent atmosphere. It’s amazing. At the end [against City] I felt a connection with the fans. We really want to win and to do that against a big rival, in our home. We live stronger with this. It was beautiful.”
Manchester United would go on to complete the comeback and beat Man City 2-1 at Old Trafford, thanks to goalscorers Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.
