PSV head coach has suggested that Cody Gakpo could leave the club when the transfer window reopens in January.

PSV manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has suggested that it’s beyond his power to stop Cody Gakpo from leaving the club in January.

Gakpo has been strongly linked with moves away from PSV ahead of the January transfer market and the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal are said to be interested in his signature.

United went close to signing the 23-year-old over the summer but failed in their pursuit after spending €100million on the transfer of Antony from Ajax.

Cody Gakpo confirmed he had several talks with the Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, and described his failed move to Old Trafford as a ‘shame’.

Leeds United also showed interest in the attacking midfielder, who can also play as a no.9, but the Netherlands international snubbed the move as he only wanted to join a top club that can challenge for trophy.

Manchester United are expected to try again to sign Gakpo in January and Ruud van Nistelrooy has suggested that the club may have given up on convincing him to stay beyond the winter transfer window.

Van Nistelrooy told Marco Timmer on Cody Gakpo and his potential transfer in January: “There comes a time when you can’t say no anymore.”
