In a recent event, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the former Manchester United manager, expressed his frustration towards his former club for not heeding his advice to secure the services of Erling Haaland at a bargain price. Solskjaer, who had previously coached Haaland during their time at Norwegian club Molde, recommended the promising young striker to United, only to witness him flourish across town at Manchester City.

Regrettably, the club failed to act upon his suggestion, and Haaland’s remarkable rise to stardom elsewhere has left Solskjaer feeling rueful.

“I personally contacted United because I firmly believed that we had a remarkable talent in our midst,” Solskjaer revealed, his disappointment palpable. “I vouched for him, insisting that they should secure his signature. However, unfortunately, they did not pay heed to my advice.”

The Norwegian manager expressed his disbelief at the missed opportunity, emphasizing the modest amount of £4 million that could have secured Haaland’s services.

“I proposed a mere £4 million for his acquisition. But, alas, they chose not to pursue it,” Solskjaer lamented. “It’s regrettable. I cannot emphasize enough how extraordinary Erling is. Four million pounds! Don’t even ask me where he is now. He’s simply too good!”

Solskjaer’s disappointment extended beyond the club’s recruitment decisions. He also called upon the Glazer family, the owners of Manchester United, to spearhead a comprehensive takeover, citing neglect towards the infrastructure and facilities at the club.

“It is absolutely necessary,” Solskjaer asserted. “Old Trafford has been overlooked, and the training ground has suffered as well. We must strive to catch up with the other teams in terms of facilities and infrastructure.”
