The Blues came from behind to produce a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night with debutant, Denis Zakaria netting the winning goal.

Chelsea are back to winning ways as they sign off the 2022/2023 UEFA Champions League group stage in style, finishing at the top of the table following last game against Dynamo Zagreb on 2nd of November, 2022.

It may have seemed like another misery was to play out on Wednesday night when Petkovic netted an early opener at the 7th minute but with a quick response from Aubameyang and Sterling combo did help restore the team on level ground.

Debutant Denis Zakaria then shot the team into lead with a 30th minute strike, helping the Blues sign off their misery following last weekend’s humbling defeat in the game against Brighton.

Eyebrows were indeed raised when Graham Potter’s former side stunned Chelsea with a disastrous 4-1 shocker which has warranted the English man to make a tactical tweak as Mason Mount confirmed after the game against Dynamo Zagreb.

Unlike the 3-4-3 formation used against Brighton, Potter chose a more traditional formation against Zagreb (4-4-2) with Raheem Sterling returning to the wing while Kai Havertz partnered with Aubameyang up front while Denis Zakaria held the center with Jorginho.

“We changed the formation a little bit,” Mount said after been named Man of the Match.

“It allowed me to drift and connect the midfield, and get forward as well. I felt good. It was a nice position for me.

“When I look at a game the negatives stick out in my head, and I gave the ball away too much. That’s how I am, that’s what I think about after the game, but I did some good bits as well, so I’ll take it.”

Considering their disappointing loss against Brighton, Potter did put a great level of trust when he kept Raheem Sterling in the starting XI against Zagreb which the English winger rewarded with a fine goal.

“It’s brilliant for Raz, he took his goal very well, very happy for him,” the Academy graduate continued.

“He doesn’t think about how many games he goes without scoring. He’s so focused on helping the team and getting in the right positions, and it will come for him, we know how good he is.”
