Manchester United are reportedly monitoring 2022 World Cup striker Marcus Thuram but will not sign him until the summer.

Thuram was a member of France’s World Cup-winning squad in Qatar and has been linked with moves to United, Arsenal, and Liverpool.

The striker’s contract with Borussia Monchengladbach expires at the end of the season, and foreign clubs can now offer him a pre-contract agreement ahead of a summer move.

According to The Mail, United are looking for a new center-forward after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, and Thuram is one of several options being considered.

The 25-year-old has 13 goals and four assists in 17 games this season, but while he may be available for a low-cost deal in January, the Red Devils will not pursue him this month.

Erik ten Hag has admitted that after spending a whopping £213 million last summer, United will be unable to spend much, if any, money this transfer window.

‘It’s always challenging. Strikers are expensive, especially in the winter,’ the manager said ahead of United’s 1-0 New Year’s Eve victory over Wolves.

‘However, you must set high limits. We’re on the lookout for it. We need to be creative and do everything in our power to bring in the right players who fit the balance.

‘It comes down to timing and availability. There are numerous factors that contribute to this. It’s been a long time, and the window hasn’t even begun.’

As a result, United are said to be looking at short-term options to fill the void at the top, similar to how Odion Ighalo was signed on loan from Shanghai Shenhua in January 2020.

Memphis Depay of Barcelona has been linked with a sensational return to Old Trafford, while Cameroon’s World Cup hero Vincent Aboubakar has also been mentioned.

In an ironic twist, the 30-year-old currently plays for Al-Nassr, but with Ronaldo’s arrival at the Saudi Arabian club, he may become surplus to requirements and available for loan.
