Manchester City Boost Squad with New Addition, Cancelo Departs Premier League Roster
Manchester City have officially included Maximo Perrone in their Premier League squad for the current season, giving the club the option to field the Argentine midfielder should they choose to.
The 20-year-old joined the Citizens in January from Velez Sarsfield in a £8.2m transfer, and is set to link up with his new team soon after completing his international duties at the South American under-20 Championship.
Perrone, who is widely regarded as a promising talent, will be given time to adapt and be evaluated by the club’s coaching staff in the coming months, with no immediate expectations of challenging for a first-team spot.
The club will eventually make a decision on whether to retain the player at the Etihad Stadium or loan him out for the next season.
It should be noted that Perrone’s inclusion on the under-21 list is merely a formality, as there are already 61 other under-21 players listed on the club’s books, including those currently out on loan.
Manchester City are allowed to have up to 25 players in their official Premier League squad, with a maximum of 17 ‘non-homegrown’ players.
Joao Cancelo, on the other hand, has been removed from the club’s list after his loan move to Bayern Munich on deadline day, leaving the team’s official squad list at 20 players.
The Pep Guardiola-led side currently has seven homegrown players in their squad and 13 players who do not fulfill that criteria. Youngsters such as Rico Lewis and Cole Palmer are not included on the main list but are eligible for the under-21 list.
