Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that he recently met with Nicolas Jackson to discuss improving his composure on the field.

Chelsea’s head coach, Mauricio Pochettino, has revealed that he recently conducted a crucial meeting with midfielder Nicolas Jackson, with the primary focus being on refining the player’s on-field demeanor to ensure greater poise and self-control.

During his pre-match press conference, Pochettino expressed his dissatisfaction with the notable surge in yellow cards that Jackson has accumulated since his transfer to the club. In just five starts, the player has amassed a total of four yellow cards, a statistic that has raised concerns within the Chelsea camp.

Pochettino, speaking on the matter, remarked,

“Today we were talking about that as we had a meeting with him and also Enzo. A striker, four yellow cards only for talking with the referee. Not because of that, it is so cheap and it is going to bring a difficult situation to the team. He understood.

“Jackson is young, he is going to be a fantastic player. He needs to be calm and relaxed.”

Highlighting Jackson’s youth and potential, Pochettino underscored the need for the player to exercise greater composure and restraint on the field. He added,

“We are talking about young players, you can blame me or blame us but they need time. There’s no doubt we have amazing talent but they need time.

“He needs to be clever and not protest to the referees. Maybe it’s because it’s his normal behaviour on the pitch, this season change the rules, he came from Spain and it’s different and the change is more sensitive about this.

“It is about adapting. I hope on Sunday we are not talking about him being clever and first action he is getting a yellow card.”

Pochettino’s remarks shed light on the club’s commitment to developing their emerging talents while also ensuring that they adhere to the standards of professionalism and discipline required at the highest level of the sport.

Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping Chelsea can grab a much needed win at home against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.
