Lewis Hall Sends Message To Chelsea Youngsters Following Manchester City On 2-1 Defeat

The Academy star was among the starting eleven as Chelsea were humbled to a 2-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.

Chelsea may have seemed like they started out well last night against Manchester City after holding the Blue side of Manchester to a half time draw.

Fortunes took a turn when Julian Alvarez netted a superb goal to extend City lead following Riyad Mahrez’s goal 6 minutes earlier.

Indeed it wasn’t a typical night Chelsea player can wish for but debutant, Lewis Hall was at least glad that his hard-work finally earned him a starting place on the senior team roaster for the first time under the new boss.

Graham Potter saw the need to bring on Kai Havertz after Chelsea went 2-0 down and that led to end of the night for Lewis Hall who impressed at his own level as well.

Chelsea failed to find an equalizer as City edged past them into the next round of the EFL cup but Lewis Hall claimed despite being sad, he is still happy he made the starting line up and has sent an indirect message to the youngsters in the academy.

“Whenever there is a new coaching staff everyone is on a level playing field. You want to impress and that’s what I try to do in training day in, day out. I’m very grateful to him for the opportunity,” Hall said.

“He’s very good with young players. Anyone who is not part of the squad coming into the group is very welcome. He gives you opportunities in training to show what you’re about, and he doesn’t put pressure on you at all.”

“It’s disappointing to lose the game and be knocked out this early, but I’m very happy personally to have an experience like this against a top side at a stadium like this,” he continued.

“I was really happy to get in the positions to score and I just need to work on that last bit. It’s something I know I can do better with.

“You don’t really have time to think about it. When you get the chance you’ve got to try and do your best to put it away, and I couldn’t do that. Hopefully I can next time.

“It can only benefit me having this experience,” he continued.

“It’s only my second appearance, something really special. It is something I can use as a learning curve.”
