“I like the problem” – Erik ten Hag speaks out on right-back competition at Man United
There’s a massive competition at right-back between Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka at Manchester United but Erik ten Hag has claimed that he loves the problem of having two good fullbacks.
Dalot had started all of Man United’s matches this season before club action took a temporary stop to observe the 2022 Qatar World but unfortunately, the former Porto defender sustained a muscle injury as Portugal lost 1-0 to Morocco in the quarter-final.
And for this reason, he missed United’s first three matches across all competitions after the restart of club football and Aaron Wan-Bissaka put out top performances in his absence.
Despite Dalot being fully fit for the Bournemouth game, Ten Hag decided to stick with Wan-Bissaka and the former Crystal Palace put out a resounding performance to help Manchester United lead 2-0 before making way for Dalot midway through the second half.
And there’s a huge dilemma at right-back but Erik ten Hag admits he loves the problem that comes with having two quality fullbacks.
Speaking after the win, he said: “I like this problem. Aaron [Wan-Bissaka] has done very well in the last few games both defensively and offensively. Good competition in the group, but there are a lot of games so we need them.”
