The media has cast doubts over the future plans of midfielder Mason Mount , whose contract with Chelsea is set to expire next summer.

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount’s future has been a topic of speculation in recent weeks, with his contract at Stamford Bridge due to expire next summer. Reports have suggested that the Blues could be forced to cash in on the talented 24-year-old or risk losing him for next to nothing.

Several top clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich, have been linked with Mount, and his departure would undoubtedly be a major loss for the London-based outfit.

However, when quizzed about the situation in a press conference, Chelsea’s new caretaker boss Frank Lampard remained tight-lipped, stating that he did not know enough about the situation to comment on it.

Speaking in his press conference, Lampard said: “I don’t know enough about it to talk about it and I think it would be wrong for me to delve into anything other than the fact that Mason has always been a fantastic player for me.

Lampard did, however, praise Mount’s abilities and noted that he has always been a fantastic player for him, both during his time at Derby County and since returning to Chelsea.

“From my days at Derby and the impact he had there to coming back to Chelsea.

“It was an absolute pleasure to watch him – among others that I coached in that period like Reece James, Tammy Abraham, Tomori and others if I missed them – to have gone on to become huge players here or elsewhere, so that’s great.” The Former English midfielder added.

The new manager also revealed that he plans to speak with Mount about his recent injury troubles and gauge where he stands, but he firmly believes that the midfielder is a crucial player for Chelsea.

“Mason, I know, has had a few slight injury problems maybe so that’s important for me to speak to him and find out where he’s at, but I know what I get from Mason.

“In those terms I just want to see him perform on the pitch and of course, we have a good relationship so we’ll talk a lot.

“I think that he’s a huge player for Chelsea and has been in his time here so I look forward to talking to him more.”

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Mount and whether Chelsea will make a move to secure him on a long-term deal.
