Frank Lampard makes admission after Cristiano Ronaldo reached 700 career club goals vs Everton
Everton manager Frank Lampard has admitted that he had wanted Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo to reach his 700th career club goal against Omonia on Thursday.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 699th career club goal from the penalty spot against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League before the international break.
The Portuguese star was left on the bench as Manchester United were trounced 6-3 by their city rivals Manchester City at the Etihad last weekend.
Ronaldo had a decent chance to reach the milestone on Thursday night night when he started against Omonia in Cyprus in the Europa League but after he missed a string of chances, the Portugal international knew his next target would be the next game against Everton.
He came in as a first half substitute after he replaced injured Anthony Martial. Some minutes later, he scored Manchester United’s match-winning goal with a brilliant strike and eventually reached the new height.
Frank Lampard believes Cristiano Ronaldo remains one of the greatest footballers ever, although he had wanted him to achieve the milestone in the midweek.
🗣 Frank Lampard on Cristiano Ronaldo scoring 700 club goals: “Outstanding. He is one of the greatest players that has graced the game. I wanted him to score the other night. When he came on, sometimes those things happen. I give him huge credit. He is amazing.” [@sistoney67]
