“Erling Haaland is on fire” – Riyad Mahrez praises goal machine after Southampton win

Riyad Mahrez has heaped praise on Erling Haaland after the forward scored once as Manchester City cruised past Southampton on Saturday in the Premier League.

Having scored a hat-trick against Manchester United last weekend and scored a brace in the Champions League against Copenhagen in the midweek, the former Borussia Dortmund striker scored once against the Saints. He couldn’t stop scoring, could he?

The Norway international has now scored 15 goals in nine Premier League matches including his one goal during City’s 4-0 demolition of Southampton at the Etihad and Mahrez has said nothing but praises for Man City’s no.9.

“Haaland is part of our team, he is our striker,” Mahrez told Manchester City official website.

“Like any other striker, if we can find him it’s perfect because he is on fire.

“If not, there are a lot of players and everyone can make a difference. We have to keep going with the momentum.”

Riyad Mahrez has also been in decent form lately, having scored a goal during Manchester City’s massive home win over Copenhagen in the Champions League.

The 31-year-old was pleased with how Man City controlled the game against the Saints at the Etihad, although he admits that City could have scored more goals than they did.

“It was a difficult game, we made it easy by scoring early and then we controlled the game,” the former Leicester City forward said. 

“We had a lot of chances to score more but we didn’t. We didn’t concede much, it was a controlled game.”

Joao Cancelo opened the scoring early in the game with a decent finish. Phil Foden kept Manchester City’s lead safe before half time with a brilliant effort.

In the second half, Riyad Mahrez scored with a top class volley and then again, goal machine Erling Haaland got involved with a decent finish.
