Erik ten Hag gave a reply when asked if Manchester United can be Premier League title contenders after their win over Bournemouth.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag said there’s a growing belief within his squad that they can challenge for the Premier League title this season, although he believes it’s a big step to start thinking about that now.

Man United closed in on Arsenal on Tuesday night when they beat Bournemouth 3-0 at Old Trafford and the Gunners were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Newcastle United at the Emirates Satdium.

The deficits between Arsenal and Manchester United have been slashed to nine points with over 20 matches left to challenge for until May.

There are some set of fans who now believe Man United are back in the Premier League title race but Erik ten Hag is refusing to get carried away by United’s recent form.

The Red Devils have won five of their last six league matches and their last seven home matches on a bounce in all competitions.

Manchester United currently occupy the 4th position with 35 points, same as 3rd-placed Newcastle United, who have played a game more, and one point behind Manchester City, although the Citizens will face Chelsea on Thursday night.

When asked if United can now challenge for the title, Ten Hag said: “That is a big step [to consider Manchester United as title challengers], we have to go from game to game and get the progress. The belief is growing. That is a good signal, and it is good to have that feeling.

“We have to understand that we have to give every game 100 percent energy, 100 percent focus and 100 percent play as a team, and if you keep that philosophy, it is possible [to win the league], but you have to go from game to game.

“Don’t get too far ahead it is January not even half a season. The next game is Everton, we have to focus on that, it is coming quick, enjoy 24 hours and then move on.”
