Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is pleased to have Wout Weghorst at Old Trafford.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag believes the signing of Wout Weghorst from Besiktas will ease the pressure on Anthony Martial.

Man United completed the signing of Weghorst from Besiktas and the Netherlands international will finish the remainder of the season at Old Trafford as a loanee.

Weghorst moved to Besiktas over the summer in a season-loan loan deal from Burnley but saw his spell cut short after Ten Hag showed interest in him.

His arrival will obviously see Anthony Martial play less games, which is exactly what the former Ajax manager wants.

Martial has struggled with injury issues this season and having an understudy in the team will help Ten Hag manage him to stay fit for the second part of the season.

Speaking ahead of the Manchester derby this weekend, Ten Hag said of Weghorst: “Weghorst wasn’t even available in the last weeks, it would be a bonus if he was. We have won a lot of games without Anthony Martial.”

Weghorst signed his Manchester United on Friday but it’s left for Ten Hag to decide whether the Burnley forward would be part of his squad for the Manchester derby.
