Erik ten Hag reacts to Facundo Pellistri cameo vs Charlton, reveals one Man United mistake

Erik ten Hag has revealed what he didn’t like about Manchester United’s display against Charlton Athletic and heaped praise on Facundo Pellistri.

Ten Hag handed Pellistri his first senior Man United appearance as a second half substitute against Charlton in the Carabao Cup and the Uruguay international would go on and impress.

Among other things he did as a substitute, Pellistri provided the assist to Rashford’s first goal against Charlton and Ten Hag believes the Uruguayan cameo was lively.

Speaking after the win, he said: “Pellistri came on and was really lively, he had some good actions and got an assist.”

On his subs, the Dutchman added: “That was the plan before, I had to bring them on to sustain the rhythm for the coming games.

“One of the qualities of this team is that the substitutes are ready to come on, contribute and play really well.”

Manchester United scored early in the game but left it late to kill the game off, thanks to a late brace from Marcus Rashford.

Whilst the game was at 1-0, the visitors pressed to get an equaliser, which put Man United on their toes in the second half, and Ten Hag was happy his side didn’t kill the game off sooner.

“The only thing I wasn’t happy with was that we should have finished earlier by finding that key pass,” said Ten Hag. 

“I don’t think we offered them too much and if we did then Tom Heaton was there.

“I think we should have finished it earlier on but the objective was to reach the semi so compliments to the team.”
