Chelsea and Liverpool are set to battle it out for Signature of Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.

According to recent reports, Liverpool and Chelsea are in a race to sign Croatian central defender Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig. The 21-year-old made a name for himself at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, where he was touted as the best central defender in the tournament and helped Croatia reach the semi-finals, before being defeated by eventual champions Argentina.

Gvardiol’s impressive performances for Leipzig have not gone unnoticed, with several top clubs such as Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Chelsea monitoring his progress.

The Guardian  reported in August 2022 that Chelsea were in advanced negotiations to sign the defender, but the deal never materialized, as he went on to sign a new five-year contract with Leipzig.

According to Football Transfers , Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s side is one of the latest teams to express interest in Gvardiol, who has a €110 million release clause. However, with Liverpool also eyeing summer moves for Jude Bellingham and Matheus Nunes, it remains to be seen whether they will have the funds to sign the Croatian. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s ongoing interest in the player could pose a challenge for Liverpool.

Gvardiol’s talent and potential continue to grow with each game he plays, making him a hot commodity in the transfer market. Any team that seeks to sign him in the upcoming transfer windows will have to make a significant investment to secure his services.
