Dimitar Berbatov backs Anthony Martial to stay fit and perform at high level
Manchester United legend Dimitar Berbatov has backed Anthony Martial to stay fit and play at his very best under Erik ten Hag.
Martial struggled last season following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo and was forced to spend the second half of the season on loan at Sevilla.
The Frenchman returned to Manchester United and decided to stay and fight for his place under new boss Erik ten Hag, who has regularly told the press that the former Monaco forward is the kind of player he likes.
Martial has scored four goals and provided two assists in seven matches and he’s yet to play 90 minutes in a game due to his injury issues.
The France international is obviously Manchester United’s first-choice striker ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo but hasn’t started games due to lack of fitness but whenever he comes on, he performs at a top level.
Dimitar Berbatov has backed the 26-year-old to stay fit and perform for the Red Devils.
“I have my love for certain players in the [current Manchester United] team,” Berbatov told MU. “For Anthony Martial, it’s because I used to play with him.
“I want to see him play, I want to see him go out there and do what he can do. I hope he can stay fit.”
Martial wasn’t called up to the France squad for the 2022 Qatar World Cup as a result of his lack of match fitness. The former Monaco striker will now focus on building his match fitness ahead of United’s friendly matches in December.
