Tottenham are currently on the lookout for a new manager to replace Antonio Conte, The north Londoners were dismal in their 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday, which came just a few days after a 2-2 draw with Brentford.

Fans are growing impatient with the plodding, slow-paced football on display, and Spurs players were booed off the field in their first home match since the World Cup after deservedly losing to Villa.

It remains to be seen whether Conte can turn things around; if not, it would not be surprising if chairman Daniel Levy targets Mauricio Pochettino for a second spell.

The Argentinean was a hugely popular figure at Spurs between 2014 and 2019, securing regular top-four finishes and even leading his side to the Champions League final in his final full season before losing to Liverpool.

Some may question whether the 50-year-old would want to work under Levy again, especially since the squad is now arguably weaker than the one he left behind. However, when asked if he would be tempted by an emotional second spell at Tottenham, Pochettino has indicated that he feels he has unfinished business.

Pochettino previously stated to talkSPORT in December: “I miss watching the Premier League. Why not (resume management in England)? We are available. I adore England and have lived in both London and Barcelona. And, of course, if that opportunity (to return) presents itself, we will seriously consider it.”

Pochettino has also stated on numerous occasions that he has no resentment about being fired by Tottenham in 2019 and replaced by Jose Mourinho, emphasizing his undying love for the club.

Speaking to Rio Ferdinand on But Sports he said;

“For me, it was an amazing journey, an amazing time,” I still consider it my club, my home.

It’s impossible to forget when you really feel with the commitment and when you feel the people give everything to try to be successful, and they treat you really, really well like they treat us.

“That is why I believe Tottenham will always be a special club for me.”

Conte’s chances of survival are slim as the Lilywhites host bitter rivals Arsenal on January 15 before hosting Manchester City four days later. They then play Fulham in another London derby before facing City in the rematch, as well as AC Milan in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie not long after.

It is debatable whether Conte will still be in charge by the time the Milan match arrives, but if he does, Pochettino will be one of the strong favourites to replace him in what would be a hugely poignant appointment.
