Chelsea receives massive injury boost as Midfield powerhouse returns from injury amid new deal offer
According to reports, N’Golo Kante is on the verge of signing a new contract with Chelsea as he nears a return from a lengthy injury.
The 31-year-old midfielder’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and he has been linked with a free transfer to Barcelona.
Kante was also wanted by Arsenal during the previous summer transfer window, but according to The Times, he is set to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge after joining the Blues in 2016.
He has been out of action since August due to a hamstring injury that required surgery, and has only appeared twice for the west London club this season.
Kante made his Premier League debut in 2015, joining Leicester City from French club Caen, and helped the Foxes win the title at odds of 5000/1.
A year later, he joined Chelsea, where he won a second Premier League title as well as the FA Cup, Champions League, Europa League, Super Cup, and Club World Cup.
After only one season with Chelsea, he was named Premier League Player of the Season, and in his second season, he was named the club’s Player of the Year.
Kante was also named Champions League Midfielder of the Season for 2020-21 as Thomas Tuchel led Chelsea to European glory.
Emmanuel Petit had urged the 2018 World Cup winner to join Arsenal in January, but the Gunners instead signed Jorginho.
Brad Friedel also wanted Liverpool to try to sign Kante on a free transfer, while Al-Nassr – Cristiano Ronaldo’s team – was interested.
Kante, who has made 262 appearances for Chelsea, is regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders of his generation.
