Chelsea makes stunning Mason Mount transfer decision amid new contract saga
According to reports, if Mason Mount fails to agree on a new contract, Chelsea will look to sell him this summer.
The 24-year-old will enter the final year of his contract at the end of the season and has yet to agree to new terms with Chelsea.
Mount is said to be unwilling to accept Chelsea’s current offer because the club wants to tie him down to a seven-year contract.
Chelsea currently risk losing Mount on a free transfer next year, but the club’s hierarchy, according to The Athletic, “will not countenance” seeing the England international leave Stamford Bridge for nothing.
Instead, if Mount’s contract situation with the club is not resolved, Chelsea will be open to offers.
According to the report, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City are all interested in signing the midfielder.
Meanwhile, Graham Potter insists Mount was “fantastic to work with” during their time together at Stamford Bridge and hopes Mount’s future is resolved soon.
‘I think it’s always complicated, there’s always negotiation,’ said Potter last week.
‘I think it’s best if I leave it between Mason and the club; that’s the best way to handle it in my opinion.’
‘He’s been fantastic to work with, a key player for us, and I, of course, hope it’s resolved quickly.’
