When you make those changes, it can be difficult to compete against a well-prepared team.

According to reports, Chelsea held an emergency meeting with head coach Graham Potter following the team’s dismal run of form.

Potter only took over as manager in September, but he has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks, with the west London club struggling in all competitions despite spending over £600 million on players since the summer.

The Blues have won just one of their last ten games and suffered a new low point on Saturday when they were defeated by 20th-placed Southampton in the Premier League.

Following early exits from the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, they are now 10th in the table, 11 points behind the top four. They are still in the Champions League, but they were eliminated in the last 16 after losing their first-leg tie to Borussia Dortmund.

According to the Evening Standard, co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, who have repeatedly backed Potter, called an emergency meeting with the former Brighton manager on Tuesday.

Boehly and Eghbali were eager to learn how Potter intends to turn around Chelsea’s fortunes, and it is believed that the Englishman’s job is secure for the time being.

Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged Chelsea to fire Potter following Saturday’s home loss to Southampton.

‘You have to see it for what it is,’ Potter said after the shocking loss. Because of the Champions League, we had to make some adjustments.

‘Because of the situation we’re in and the boys returning from injury, we’ve had to make some changes.

‘When you make those changes, it can be difficult to compete against a well-prepared team.’

‘He should be sacked for that post-match interview,’ Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT.

‘What are you on about? They don’t have a manager, and you’re facing a team in disarray that can’t string together back-to-back victories.

‘You’re upset because you had to take Mykhailo Mudryk off the bench and start Joao Felix? Are you kidding me?

‘Bad Graham! Graham, you poor thing… Wow… I believe so as well… There is a slight English bias.’
