Chelsea clash with Real Madrid in race to sign French International

Real Madrid will reportedly face stiff competition for Theo Hernandez, a 25-year-old French international who is set to leave AC Milan next year.

According to Inter Live, Chelsea will be interested in signing Theo Hernandez during the summer transfer window. The 25-year-old AC Milan defender is also a Real Madrid target and could leave San Siro next year.

Since joining AC Milan from Real Madrid, Theo Hernandez has found a solid footing in his career. The French international had struggled to make an impact at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, in the last three and a half years, he has been one of the best full-backs in Serie A.

So far in the 2022/23 season, the 25-year-old has contributed two goals and four assists in 18 appearances. Hernandez was also a key figure in France’s run to the 2022 FIFA World Cup final. However, the player’s contract with AC Milan may expire next year, with Real Madrid and Chelsea looking to swoop in.

Due to the uncertainty surrounding Ferland Mendy’s future, Real Madrid may invest in a left-back during the summer transfer window. Following his fitness issues last year, the Frenchman’s stock has dropped. According to recent reports, Real Madrid may sell Mendy during the summer transfer window.

As a result, Theo Hernandez has emerged as a viable Real Madrid target. And, despite failing to make an impression during his first season at the Santiago Bernabeu, the 25-year-old is now at the top of his game. However, Real Madrid will have to compete with Chelsea for the French international.
