Barcelona receive injury boost ahead of Laliga clash against Cadiz
Barcelona have been handed a much-needed boost ahead of their upcoming La Liga fixture against Cadiz, with reports suggesting that their captain, Sergio Busquets, is set to make a return to the squad.
According to Javi Miguel of AS, Busquets is likely to receive clearance from the medical department on Saturday, having recovered from the ankle injury that he picked up during Barça’s match against Sevilla. The influential midfielder has missed the team’s last two matches against Villarreal and Manchester United, but his return will provide much-needed stability to a side that has been plagued by injuries in recent weeks.
The news will come as a welcome relief to Barcelona manager Xavi, who has been left with limited options in midfield due to injuries and suspensions.
With youngster Pedri ruled out for up to a month, and Gavi suspended for the return fixture against Manchester United, the Blaugrana have been facing a shortage of options in the middle of the park.
However, the expected return of Busquets will go a long way in alleviating Xavi’s concerns, as the 33-year-old is a vital cog in the team’s midfield machinery.
The report from AS suggests that Busquets is set to participate in some group training today, and if all goes well, he will be given the green light to join the squad for Sunday’s match against Cadiz.
The news will be a source of encouragement for Barcelona, who have had to contend with a spate of injuries and absences in recent weeks. With Busquets likely to make his return, the Catalan giants will be hoping to get their season back on track and push for a strong finish in the La Liga title race.
