Arsenal Set to Launch £90M Opening Bid for Top-Priority Midfield Acquisition
Arsenal FC is reportedly gearing up to make a move for West Ham United’s Declan Rice, although the Gunners are likely to face an uphill battle to meet the Hammers’ valuation of the highly coveted midfielder.
According to sources, West Ham is holding out for a staggering £120 million transfer fee for the 24-year-old, a figure that is likely to deter potential suitors. Nevertheless, Arsenal is determined to bring Rice to the Emirates Stadium and is expected to explore ways to reduce the transfer fee.
Rice is a top transfer target for the Gunners this summer, but the club’s budget is not unlimited, meaning that the North London outfit will need to approach negotiations with a degree of caution.
Daily Mail has reported that Arsenal will begin discussions with West Ham by offering £90 million for Rice, a fee that would surpass the club’s current transfer record of £72 million, which was paid for Nicolas Pepe four years ago.
It has been suggested that Arsenal is prepared to offer Rice a massive contract worth around £300,000 per week to lure him to North London. While a £100 million transfer fee has also been rumored, it appears that Arsenal is not willing to make an initial bid at that level.
Chelsea and Manchester United are also thought to be interested in the 41-cap England international, and it remains to be seen whether a bidding war will ensue for Rice’s services. Nonetheless, West Ham is unlikely to lower their asking price and will likely hold out for a premium fee for their prized asset.
