Antonio Conte hit with selection headache as Tottenham suffer another major injury blow for the rest of the season
Tottenham Hotspur ace Rodrigo Bentancur is set to miss the next six months after suffering a serious knee injury against Leicester City on Saturday.
Spurs were thrashed 4-1 at the King Power Stadium, despite Bentancur scoring after only 14 minutes.
‘We know that he feels pain, he can walk, so we have to wait a bit of time to check and understand what happened,’ assistant manager Cristian Stellini said.
‘We hope he feels better in a few days and that he can return soon.’
However, it has now been reported that the 25-year-old has severely damaged his ACL and will not be able to play again until August at the earliest.
Bentancur has been one of Tottenham’s best players this season, with five goals and two assists in the league, and the north London club has struggled when he is unavailable.
It has given Antonio Conte a major selection headache for Tuesday night’s Champions League game against AC Milan.
Bentancur’s usual midfield partner, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, is suspended, and Yves Bissouma is also out after only recently undergoing ankle surgery, with no return date set for the Mali international.
Conte is now left with the young duo of Pape Matar Sarr and Oliver Skipp, who have started just seven games in all competitions this season.
Tottenham are also without goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris, who is expected to be out until April.
Following their trip to Milan, they will host London rivals West Ham on Sunday in an attempt to resurrect their Premier League campaign.
Spurs are currently fifth in the table, two points behind Newcastle in fourth despite having played one more game.
