AC Milan leads Serie A. Legendary team return
The Rossoneri went into quarantine seventh in the A Serie table, with dubious tournament prospects, but a very definite future.
Stefano Pioli had to give control of the team to Ralph Rangnick. There was no place for him in that future. Rangnik didn’t see Zlatan Ibrahimovic in his team, and Paolo Maldini didn’t want to share the team with the german specialist. The legendary ex-captain threatened to leave with Pioli.
However, Pioli had other plans. Before the lockdown, AC Milan scored 36 points in 26 matches, after the lockdown – 30 points in 12 matches, beating Roma, Lazio and Juventus among others. Rangnick left the club. Club CEO Ivan Gadzidis said that he always trusted Pioli. Moreover, Ibrahimovic extended the contract. Maldini and sports director Frederic Massara took over the transfers.
The 2020/2021 season started three months ago. Milan fans are still afraid that they are just dreaming about what is happening.
