Dance artist Davalois Fearon premieres new work at UW-Milwaukee Dec. 13
Davalois Fearon, founder and artistic director of New York-based Davalois Fearon Dance, premieres her new work, Time to Talk Milwaukee, in which dance, original music, poetry and visual arts are used as tools to bring attention to today’s important issues surrounding race as it relates to identity, dance education and American history.
The performance will conclude with a discussion moderated by administrative law judge and FPC Commissioner Angela McKenzie, with post show discussion guests that include Fred Royal, president of the NAACP Milwaukee branch; Amber Tucker, Interim Assistant Director of UW-Milwaukee’s Women’s Resource Center; and other special guests.
The performance takes place at 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 13 at Studio 254-Mitchell Hall at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Tickets are available for $10 at arts.uwm.edu/tickets or by calling the box office at 414-229-4308.
Fearon, one of Dance Magazine’s “Best Performers of 2015,” was born in Jamaica and raised in New York. The UWM Masters Candidate is the creator of the activism piece Consider Water, which has been performed worldwide, and has brought additional attention to multiple global water issues. She has been featured in The New York Times, and is a two-time recipient of the Advanced Opportunity Fellowship from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.
