Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur predictions for Sunday’s Premier League clash at Goodison Park. Antonio Conte takes charge of Spurs for the first time in the Premier League when his new charges visit Merseyside to take on Everton. Read on for our free predictions and betting tips.
Rafa Benitez enjoyed a positive start in the Everton hotseat this season, though performances and results have started to sour for the Spaniard since.
The Toffees’ triumph over bottom club Norwich on September 25th remains their only victory in seven matches in all competitions and Everton’s 2-1 reverse to Wolves on Monday was their third loss on the spin in the Premier League.
With key striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the treatment room alongside marauding midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure, Everton will be without two of their best forward-thinking players on Sunday, though their issues at the opposite end – where Yerry Mina could be joined on the sidelines by Lucas Digne – are just as apparent.
Antonio Conte got his Tottenham tenure off to a winning start on Thursday when his new charges edged out Vitesse 3-2 in the Europa Conference League.
The Italian immediately deployed Spurs in his favoured 3-4-3 formation, though he got his first taste of Tottenham’s unpredictability when they almost threw away a three-goal advantage against the Dutch minnows.
Defensive issues have plagued Tottenham’s campaign so far – as evidenced by their run of five defeats in seven top-flight contests – and Conte’s first task will be to bring some stability to the team’s backline.
Everton and Tottenham have shared plenty of problems in terms of defensive performances this term, and though Spurs in particular will expect to improve in that department as the season progresses, it could take Antonio Conte time to instill his methodology.
The clubs have claimed just a single clean sheet between them in their last 14 Premier League matches combined and we expect both sides to concede again on Sunday. With that in mind, we recommend backing both teams to score at 1.8 this weekend.
In addition, a stake on the under-fire Harry Kane to deliver a goal in Conte’s first league game at the helm appeals at 2.25. Kane is a little out of sorts, though he has plundered three goals on his last two visits to Goodison Park and he is capable of impressing again here.
