The Icelandic story has captured everybody’s imagination. And, yes, it is a great tale. But it’s also true that they conceded plenty of chances in the groups, particularly against Portugal. And that while the deep defending doesn’t suit England’s game, the gap in quality is bigger, I think, than many realize. It could take Hodgson’s crew a while to break down that stout Icelandic defence, but they really ought to have enough quality to do so. On this basis the way to play this one is to go for the second half as the half for the first goal at 2/1.
