On November 13 at Madison Square Garden will take place UFC 281. In one of the early prelim events, American light heavyweight Dominick Reyes will fight against American light heavyweight Ryan Spann. The fight is planned for 02:00 UK time.
In this fight, I’m going to give my preference to veteran Dominic Reyes, because his striking technique is obviously a few levels higher. The main thing for him is to survive the starting part, where Spann is going VA-BANK almost constantly, and then he gets tired and it’s just a matter of time. Most likely Reyes will win early in rounds 2-3, but let’s not take any chances and take his clean win in the fight.
Dominic Reyes is a versatile fighter. Good punching combinations, knockout power, an average level of wrestling, and cardio is good for 3 rounds steadily. Dominic is definitely past his peak, but as a fighter, he’s generally an iron top 10 of the current light heavyweight division. Reyes is also going on a streak of three straight losses, which should add to his motivation to win this fight. He lost to the Czech light heavyweight Jiri Prochazka in the second round by knockout. Another loss from the Polish light heavyweight Jan Blachowicz in the second round by knockout and also a loss to American light heavyweight Jon Jones by unanimous decision of the judges in the fifth round. Before this lose-streak, the Devastator has a six-win-streak, where he defeated former UFC middleweight champion American Chris Weidman in the first round by knockout, Swiss light heavyweight Volkan Oezdemir by split decision in the third round, Haitian-American light heavyweight Ovince Saint Preux in the third round by unanimous decision of the judges.
Ryan Spann is the finisher. Knockout power, slow, blue belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, cardio for 1-1.5 rounds at an active fight pace. Spann is overrated, as a fighter, and in my opinion, not even close to the Top 15 (#12 as of right now), he hasn’t defeated a single fighter in the current Top 15. Spann has won over the Moldovan light heavyweight Ion Cutelaba in the first round by submission, lost to the American light heavyweight Anthony Smith after being choked in the first round, win the Latvian light heavyweight Misha Cirkunov by knocking him out in the first round, and lost to the Brazilian light heavyweight Johnny Walker by knockout in the first round. Starting from June 2018 till May 2020, Ryan Spann has no losses. In early 2017 Superman lost to the American former kickboxer Karl Roberson by knockout in the first round.
