A very good year so far for Stefanos Tsitsipas
It has been a very good year for the Greek world number five so far. The 22-year-old reached the semi-final in the Australian Open and Rotterdam. Despite missing out on titles at the beginning of the year after losing to Zverev in the final of Acapulco, Tsitsipas improved his form even more on clay.
Winning his first ever Masters 1000 at Monte Carlo was the highlight of his year so far. He followed that with a strong performance in Barcelona where he reached the final and gave in to Nadal after having championship point. Tsitsipas is one of the young players that has quickly proved himself to be at the top level and he will be keen to do well in Rome as preparation for the French Open.
A much-needed win in the 1st round for Cilic
The one-time Grand Slam winner is struggling to find form this year. The once regular in the top eight Marin Cilic has had many problems from injuries, disappointing form, and early losses which saw him drop in the rankings as he finds himself ranked 43 in the world.
In the first round in Rome, Cilic had a very confidence-boosting win against in-form Alexander Bublik. The Croat went a set down but came back in the second stronger after improving his first serve from 43% to 67% as he broke his opponent twice and went on to win the third 6-3. Cilic now faces stronger opposition inTsitsipas, whom the Croat beat in their only previous H2H meeting.
Key Stats
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Marin Cilic Prediction
Tsitsipas is one of the most exciting players on Tour at the moment. He has improved immensely in the last couple of years and being world number five at the age of just 22, proves how good the Greek player is.
Cilic is not in the form he once was and his serve is not aiding him to control matches like he used to. He did well in his last match against Bublik to come back from a set down but we think Tsitsipas is too strong for the Croat.
Given the experience Cilic has, we think he will win enough games in this game and thus we predict an over 19.5 total games for this match.
For our second prediction, we are backing a Tsitsipas win by two sets.
