In recent weeks, Scunthorpe have gone from looking a shoo-in for automatic promotion to struggling to maintain their position inside the top two. Having said this, The Iron welcome a Wimbledon side who’ve found life tough on the road to Glanford Park on Tuesday night and can get back on track.

Having set the pace in League One for a long time, it seems strange that Scunthorpe have been reeled in by the play-off pack lately, but it’s a funny old game. Graham Alexander’s side are now seven points behind league leaders Sheffield United, although they do have a game in hand.

A home match against a side who’ve not won away in their last 11 attempts, really does provide Scunthorpe with a big chance to strengthen their grip on 2nd place.

Backing ‘Scunthorpe to Win & Over 1.5 Goals’ is the way to go ahead of this fixture. The hosts might have stuttered somewhat of late, but they remain a strong side on their own patch, that’s for sure. Alexander’s side have lost just once at Glanford Park this season and are currently League One’s highest scorers when playing at home. In addition, eight of their nine home wins have seen The Iron score at least twice.

The hosts play an attacking game, particularly on their own patch, and with the talismanic Josh Morris (scored 18 league goals this season) in their ranks, they have the tools to do some real damage, especially against a Wimbledon side who’ve been finding it very hard to compete when playing away from the comforts of home.

If you were to look at the overall form of Wimbledon on the road this season, then there might not be too much cause for concern; however, the visitors have now failed to win any of their last 11 league matches away from home and have scored a measly five goals in that time. When you put it like that, it’s clear that they’ve got problems.

Scoring goals has been what Scunthorpe are all about this season. No other team has scored more goals at home than Graham Alexander’s side with them scoring at least twice on nine occasions. Against a Wimbledon side who’ve conceded at least two goals in each of their last three on the road, Scunthorpe can once again flex their attacking muscles.

They might not have had things go their way lately, but the hosts couldn’t ask for a better opportunity to get back on the up and are expected to secure all three points in convincing fashion.
