This World Cup qualifier is an all-British affair and a crunch clash in Group D as both Ireland and Wales need to win this in order to really put their marker down to the rest of the teams.
Ireland have had a fantastic qualification campaign so far, topping Group D by two points thanks to an unbeaten run of three wins and one draw in their four matches.
The Irish have been particularly good at the back and have conceded just three goals in the group so far and kept two clean sheets. Martin O’Neill has picked an experienced squad overall for this match against Wales but there is still a sprinkling of youth and uncapped players to keep things interesting.
The Green Army have a fantastic home record and have lost just once on home soil since June 2014, and even that defeat came in a meaningless friendly against Belarus.
Wales have failed to live up to their fantastic Euro 2016 journey in this qualification campaign so far and currently sit 3rd in Group D. They may not have lost any of their four games so far but have only managed to record draws in their last three.
The problems have been at the back for Chris Coleman’s men and their only clean sheet so far in Group D came in their opener against Moldova. They have scored in each of their last two games, however, only once on each occasion which is rarely going to be enough to win a match at this level of football.
The Welsh have a good core to their squad which saw them do so well at the Euros, however, there is also a fair amount of youth with the likes of Harry Wilson, Ben Woodburn and Joe Walsh.
Cymru have only played one game away from home in the qualification campaign so far, earning a respectable draw in Austria. However, they were excellent on their travels in the Euros qualifying stage, losing just once and keeping three clean sheets in their five matches.
Both of these sides will be really going for it here. Ireland will be confident of scoring on their own territory whilst Wales have an excellent attacking line-up which of course includes Real Madrid star Gareth Bale. ‘Both Teams to Score’, at 5/4, is definitely a bet that stands out, especially since these two have only failed to score once between them in their last ten fixtures combined.
