Bookmaker Ratings: Prediction #1 – Sean O’Malley to win – 1.35.
Munhoz will have a difficult time adjusting to his taller opponent. Sean has considerably longer arms and legs, and he’s been very good at fighting from distance, often operating as the number two fighter. However, O’Malley has not faced any top opposition. There was only one tough opponent – Marlon Vera. He lost to Vera early. There the American suffered an injury that left him unable to get back up.
To knock out Munhoz will not be an easy task, as he has never lost a fight early. The Brazilian is a very powerful fighter, and he has good BJJ skills. However, it seems as if Pedro is past his peak and can’t compete with his top opponents any longer. If that’s the case, a solid win for O’Malley is in order, but it’s unlikely the bout will end quickly.
Munhoz is approaching this meeting in sub-optimal form. In his last four fights, he has lost three times. He now has two straight defeats to Jose Aldo and Dominick Cruz.
Munhoz has not beaten a top opponent in a very long time. Since beating Cody Garbrandt in 2019, there has not been a successful encounter with a top-10 representative.
The Brazilian is on base as a representative of BJJ, but his take-down stats are not impressive. He has only a 21% success rate in transferring his opponent to the parterre.
Munhoz generally wins by quantity rather than by the quality of footwork. Pedro has only one plan for the fight. In the clinch, however, Pedro doesn’t have any outstanding results.
Munhoz has lost four of his last five fights.
Sean is currently ranked number 13 in the bantamweight division. O’Malley is currently on a three-fight winning streak.
He’s won all of them by TKO. The American prefers to fight in standup, but he also knows the base of the BJJ. At the same time, Sean has an excellent defence in the back.
Statistically, O’Malley blocks 65% of his opponents’ leg kicks. It turns out that O’Malley is able to offset his opponent’s main advantage.
In the standup, Pedro has very little chance against Sean. Sean has 10 wins in his career by knockout. That said, he has nine first-round finishes to his credit.
75% of O’Malley’s fights in the UFC didn’t make it to the judges’ decision.
