Novak Djokovic looking for better form on clay
It has been a slow start for Djokovic to the clay season. The world number one will be looking for a better start in Rome as he plays a tough first match against American Taylor Fritz in the second round, whom the Serb needed five sets to beat in the Australian Open back in February. Djokovic has won all three meetings with the American, two of them on clay.
Novak had won the only Grand Slam this year in Australia raising his tally of Grand Slam wins to 18. The 33-year-old will prepare himself on the clay courts of Rome for the season’s second Grand Slam in Rolland Garros in an attempt to win it for the first time in his career.

Taylor Fritz has been improving over the past couple of years and it may be just a matter of time before we see the 23-year-old American at the top level. The world number 31 reached the semi-final in Doha this year. He has just two wins in the three clay tournaments he played so far this season proving clay is his least favorite surface.
In the first round, Taylor Fritz beat world number 27, Dan Evans, in two sets. Fritz’s 1st serve percentage was 69% and he won 76% of points behind his first serve. His second serve was also impressive winning 77% of points behind his second serve.
