New manager bounce for Norwich and Smith?
With Norwich five points adrift of safety, Smith needs to hit the ground running. He won’t have spent too much time with his new team, but at least he doesn’t have to spend much time preparing for Southampton, as he has just faced them with Villa.
Norwich won their last match away to Brentford before the international break; however, it remains to be seen whether Smith rings the changes or leaves the side unchanged hoping to ride a wave of momentum.
Norwich have scored only five Premier League goals so far this season with talismanic striker, Teemu Pukki, scoring three of them. Pukki will be hoping for a change in fortunes under new boss Smith which will hopefully produce more chances to hit the back of the net.

Saints quietly marching up the league
The third lowest scorers in the league – behind Tottenham and opponents Norwich – could find themselves in the top seven should other results go their way.
Adam Armstrong, scorer of a third minute winner last time out will again be aiming for a quick start against a team that has shipped 12 goals in their last six matches.
Or will Che Adams, fresh off scoring late in a 2-0 Scotland win over Denmark on Monday – also assisted by his Southampton teammate Stuart Armstrong – do the business against the Canaries.
Norwich City vs Southampton predictions
Norwich have looked like relegation fodder so far this season and though they may eventually benefit from a change of philosophy it will prove difficult to expand on their one win so far this season against a defensively solid Southampton.
Southampton should go into the game with confidence having beaten a Smith led team just before the international break, as well as being seventh in the form table for the last six matches. We recommend backing Southampton to win based on this.
Southampton have proven defensively solid and hard to break down conceding 12 goals in their first 11 matches.
Southampton have won three of their last four matches by a score of 1-0. Discounting Norwich’s 7-0 thrashing at Chelsea last month, Norwich have conceded five goals in their last five matches. Based on this we expect the trend to continue and recommend backing Southampton to win 1-0.

Norwich City team news
Creative midfielder Billy Gilmour may return to the starting 11 in Smith’s first game in charge, while Todd Cantwell could also return to the matchday squad.
However, there are problems in defence as Grant Hanley is ruled out and there are also doubts over Ozan Kabak and Andrew Omobamidele.
Southampton team news
Southampton will be boosted by the news that James Ward-Prowse and Valentino Livramento will be available despite injuries during the international break.
Nathan Redmond is also back in contention after previously contracting Covid-19.
