Another defeat for the Toon
Liverpool came out comfortable 3-1 winners on Thursday night but were given a shock after Jonjo Shelvey’s stunning curler gave Newcastle a seventh minute lead.
However, Diogo Jota equalised on 21 minutes and then a Shelvey mistake allowed Mohamed Salah to slot home four minutes later. From that point despite their efforts, it never looked like Newcastle were going to get anything from the match.
Trent Alexander-Arnold sealed the points three minutes from time with a thunderous strike of his own.
As if matters couldn’t get any worse, Newcastle now host a Man City side fresh off a massive goal haul against Leeds, likely hoping to keep things respectable.

Seventh heaven for City
On Tuesday night, Man City destroyed Leeds United 7-0, and it seemed like the goals were coming from everywhere.
Two central defenders scored the last two goals in John Stones and substitute Nathan Ake, Kevin De Bruyne got a brace to announce he is well and truly back, while the front three of Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez all scored.
The seven goals isn’t the only important number as this was the seventh Premier League win in a row for City. The Cityzens travel to Newcastle in scary form and look unstoppable in their quest to reclaim the Premier League title.
Newcastle United vs Manchester City predictions
Man City go into this one with seven wins on the bounce while putting seven past Leeds last time out. Newcastle have conceded seven goals in their last two games, scoring just once.
We can’t see anything other than a Man City win here, but the 2/13 price is too short. Newcastle have scored first in six of their eight home games, they also scored first away against Liverpool. City to come from behind and win is 13/2 and may be worth a small bet.
Man City have conceded one goal in each of their last three away matches in all competitions, both teams to score is priced at 11/10.
